Travelling by Car?

Survey1 results reveal that as well as impacting on the enjoyment of travel; a bout of travel sickness can pose potential safety risks, especially in the car where the majority of sufferers are affected.

A forward view of the road minimises travel sickness, as your body sensors all agree that you are moving straight ahead. Therefore, if possible you should sit in the front of the car where you will be able to get a clear view of the road. If the sufferer is too young to sit in the front then the child should be positioned in the back of the vehicle ensuring that they are able to get a clear view of the road.

You should avoid looking down into your lap, reading or playing computer games while travelling. If indeed you need to consult a map, you should pull over and read it while stationary. Playing games that involve looking ahead and singing along to music can help prevent problems. Good ventilation is important too, open the window or turn up the ventilation in order to maintain a continuous supply of fresh air.
